babies
so many babies. ann just had her baby on the 28th. or did she actually have it on the 29th? who knows? she is all confused. I understand. your world is completely turned upside down. suzy had her baby on october 13th. the same day as my mother-in-law's and my brother-in-law's birthdays. heather is due in february and so is tara. I think joanne is due in march. there are also two sets of twins brewing. whoa! I am glad my kids don't wear diapers anymore. and they can dress themselves. I just want to have some cool fashion for them to choose from. thrift town! recently, at goodwill, I found a sport coat. draggon loves them. and there was something in the pocket. a bowtie. so, the next day, he wore it to school (with a button-up shirt). he gets so excited when there is something fresh for him. most of the jeans, if not from a thrift store, are usually h&m. draggon does the skinny ones sometimes. he is a bit of a rebel/rocker like his mom. magnus refuses the skinny jeans. he has a more laid-back sense of style. they almost always only wear vans and most of the time, they only have one pair. except that I found a pair of slip-ons from old navy that fit draggon. they were down in storage. the first day he saw them, he decided to wear one of those shoes and one of his vans. whatever. makes him happy.

bally

I am very excited about the new year. 2008 was a year of organizing for me. I feel a change, a lightness. I have never been so organized in my life and I am not even finished yet. I complain of my messy small apartment, so I am working on changing that. I am pretty lucky to have a 2 bedroom (rent control) in this bizarre neighborhood of upper haight (aka haight-ashbury). tourists and college kids in those stupid ugg (ugh) boots. I am bummed to admit that if I were in my 20s now, I might be wearing those lazy boots. yikes! I have to say that when I got that ed hardy shirt from my mom this xmas, I felt a bit depressed. I am not a follower in the world of fashion. I won't be wearing any shit like that! I did like the black cashmere sweater a lot though. I am a thrift store shopper and therefore find my fashion mostly second-hand. I still love a few modern pieces to add to my mix. one of my latest thrift store finds was the white bally shoes. $1.50. they were half off of $3.00. I do know quality. I just don't have enough room for quantity anymore.
xmas passed. it is always so stressful beforehand. I am just enjoying the time with the boys. total wii overload now. I just have to say no after a while. but we did get a cool lightsaber duel game, which eventually I will learn how it works. and I got my itouch, so now I have music to walk to and I will have music in my art studio instead of just my hair studio. I am very excited!
there is so much more going on, I have a lot to look forward to.

wednesday 13
so, got back from the east coast on wednesday. (oh yeah, one week before wednesday the 13th.) mina had tickets for thursday for us to see wednesday 13 at slim's and otep at 12 galaxies. we got ready at my studio and headed off. mina was concerned that we might not make otep, but I figured that shows always started later there and slim's always kicks you out as early as they can. I was psyched. not a huge crowd, so we easily were up at the stage. I kept pointing at jonny chops, the drummer because he was kicking such ass. we waited outside for the band to finish up. I was so cold. it is so cold here is SF these days. brrrrrrr. and mina told me that I should wear that short slutty skirt instead of my red velvet number nine pants. rock and roll. or punk rock/ metal. mina was asking all the musicians about their instruments. so an hour goes by and finally, wednesday 13 comes out. these two young chicks babbled on and on with him. so, when she gets her chance she barely has anything to say. you could tell he was burned out and she gets it. there it went. jonny, the drummer, wanted to eat and maybe even see the band, but he had to get settled with the band first. so, we went off to otep and got to see their last song. she was right, though. they totally rock. seriously hard! after that, we went to sparky's. she always wants a late night burger and then we went to my studio to gather our shit. there were a bunch of meatheads, probably just kicked out of that levende lounge place, so we were waiting until they left. what a bunch of losers! just go home! then a huge fight breaks out. I could see one guy on the ground getting kicked by about 5 other guys and there were a bunch of other people standing around. I called the cops and then the bullies sped off in about 3 cars. we went to the studio and our new friend jonny had called mina's phone which she left there. I could see why these people just let those assholes beat up that guy. they were some of the whimpiest boys I have seen in a while. I am sure those assholes were all tweaked out. a bunch of losers in their new stupid cars. I hate assholes like that. drunk and cracked out. we went back to sparky's again for a second time. ridiculous, I know. we had tea and a chocolate soy milk and I finally got home at 4. my husband was pissed. and I was still on east coast time.

Atis Eriks Zulgis

I lost my friend, Atis recently.
I have been so sad.
I met Atis here in SF in 1991 at Architects & Heroes. He was a bit of a mentor to me. He thought I should be a colorist, but I chose to cut hair instead. I loved his passion for color and would spend time watching him work so neatly and seriously. I was lucky to have him do my haircolor. For a while, he kept my blonde up as often as I would let him. I chose to have very long roots too often to his dismay - that 90's grunge era. When I was tired of the blonde, he rocked out my hair with 5 different punky colors placed oh-so-perfectly and neatly. After that, I worked on a fashion show for calvin klein. There, kate moss complimented me on my fantastic hair color. It rocked. It was so fresh.
I learned so much from Atis over the years. I always think about the future of the hair color. What will it be like in 3 or 4 months time? very smart.
Erik will do a great job with my hair, but I will certainly miss Atis and his incredible talent. To me, he lives on in his friends and his wonderful partner Clarence.
The memorial was very special for me. There was such a beautiful energy, like it was coming straight from Atis. He always did love the angels. It was a bit of a transformation. I will never be the same.
I can't believe Atis will not be doing my color again.

siouxsie
I got to see Siouxsie at the Fillmore. both nights. I really love her solo album. Tuesday, I made her an earring from my Krista collection. I was so excited to give her something special that I made just for her. There were such die-hard fans at the stage, it was difficult to get very close. I almost handed it to her when she started with the next song, so I tossed it up on the stage near her monitor. The song was "Into A Swan" which is my favorite song from the album. She got the package. She held it up at the end of the song/set and said, "Thank you" several times to the audience, and of course, me, the bearer of the gift (maybe).
When I got home to relieve the babysitter, I told her of my experience. She asked me, "Isn't she a vegan?" oops. After some googling, I found out that she is involved with peta, as well. yikes.
Wednesday, I went to see her with my friend Robert . So, when I got to meet her with Hiroshi later that night, I had some explaining to do. The fur is recycled from old vintage beat-up coats and hats. She still didn't like the idea. Oh, well. Her friends did. I have a feeling she will remember me.
