I lost my friend, Atis recently.
I have been so sad.
I met Atis here in SF in 1991 at Architects & Heroes. He was a bit of a mentor to me. He thought I should be a colorist, but I chose to cut hair instead. I loved his passion for color and would spend time watching him work so neatly and seriously. I was lucky to have him do my haircolor. For a while, he kept my blonde up as often as I would let him. I chose to have very long roots too often to his dismay - that 90's grunge era. When I was tired of the blonde, he rocked out my hair with 5 different punky colors placed oh-so-perfectly and neatly. After that, I worked on a fashion show for calvin klein. There, kate moss complimented me on my fantastic hair color. It rocked. It was so fresh.
I learned so much from Atis over the years. I always think about the future of the hair color. What will it be like in 3 or 4 months time? very smart.
Erik will do a great job with my hair, but I will certainly miss Atis and his incredible talent. To me, he lives on in his friends and his wonderful partner Clarence.
The memorial was very special for me. There was such a beautiful energy, like it was coming straight from Atis. He always did love the angels. It was a bit of a transformation. I will never be the same.
I can't believe Atis will not be doing my color again.
